Born in Queens, New York, and raised in Bergen County, New Jersey, John first came to the Philadelphia area in 1975 to attend Villanova University. He soon turned from his New York roots and fully embraced the Phillies and the Eagles. His background includes careers in Set Design and Construction, general contracting, kitchen and bath design and twenty-five years as an ELA teacher in Catholic education. He received a BFA in Literature and Performance from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, an MFA in Theater from Villanova and an MEd in Educational Leadership from Neumann University. John, now retired, enjoys spending time in his cutting garden, traveling, visiting a winery or two, and of course taking photographs.
The photographs displayed here are mostly “Philly- centric”. They are images of familiar places and objects captured through a lens of my own design. “I shoot what I like, and then offer the images for others to judge”. Having a background in Theatrical design I try to create a unique approach to composition, use of light and shadow to create mood, and manipulation of color intensity to engage an emotional connection between the subject and the viewer. The images were captured using either my Nikon D-3000, or my I-phone. I enjoy all forms of photography. Shooting in both color and in Black and white, I look for architectural details, interesting street scenes, nature and sports images.
