My work in clay as a hand builder means that I do not use a wheel, my clay is rolled flat and I cut shapes and form then into usable items such as vases, tea pots, casseroles, mugs and plates. I decorate these items with slip trail, scratches, and use underglaze colors stains and glazes adding color to my work. I began my working life as a woodworker doing shows and exhibiting in craft shows. I produced furniture, chests, and tables along with wood carved items. My carving work became a wood carved sign business as “Wood Masters Signs” in Havertown for over 30 years. I’ve worked in stoneware clay for over 20 years for “Fun” and once againI’m doing shows. I enjoy working in clay and try to evolve my own character of work, I’m always trying new ideas in form and decoration, clay allows for easy trial and error methods of achieving my ambitions. Kiln openings are the best and worst times for me, expectations are always high.
